Day 1- FTS

Day 1
Company Visit/s:
Social Security System and SPi Global
 Today I went to…
Tagged with a line “Kabalikat sa tuwid na landas ng pagbangon ng Pilipinas”, our batch had a wonderful company visit to Social Security System. Right after our plane landed on Manila we had a direct travel via land leading ourselves to the said company. Personally I was so overwhelmed for the kind of accommodation they did to us. To think that we are just to be oriented and know SSS a bit, we already experience one of the best treatments we had. The setting was so like a convention plus a bountiful snack J. There were a lot things being taught to us and for a moment we were all educated to what does it profit to be an SSS holder.
But since we have to incline ourselves to Information technology, we intend to enter their data center. But unfortunately we were not able to visit such a place since it is not convenient on our part for they were doing some sort of development for the center. But any there were still a lot of things taught to us aside from visiting a data center. We had visited their museum, one stop center where a lot of networked computers function to serve their clients and the SSS ID Card Production Center.

 What I learned…
To provide a quality driven and technology based system, this is the mission where the SSS grows and develop. Now, what did I learned. Let us talk computerization. Well of course all of us who were enrolled in the course Information technology is oblige to get ourselves entangle with this word. As we had out tour over the company, there were several kinds of jargons JI guess that was being mentioned on and on. These words were network/networking which is both public and private, biometrics, computer reliant, server, allocation and deallocation and firewalls.
From the mentioned words above I was again awakened by the fact that sooner or later this might be the kind of work that I would really be chasing. Something that is rally inclined to IT. More and more, SSS tour amazed me when I saw personally a biometrics “thing”. Yes, I am very much happy to see that specific machine that identifies which fingerprints is for a certain individual. It thrills me more knowing that evidences and proofs are also being subjected to them by the people in power of authority (for criminal case). Seeing that kind of thing that helps in many way keeps on amusing me.
Aside from all of those things I said, I also noticed one thing. I bet that it is not so part of learning but I had just observed that the computer units that they used is so Jurassic and old. But after knowing that even if it is so like an antic, it is still indeed of good condition and works better that others because of its processors and developments.
 What I liked…

J Again, what strikes me most during our visit in Social Security System was visiting that fingerprint matching “office”. I don’t know but it gives me excitement especially that the moment I get to enter there was the lady on that certain table was working for a match. They are meticulous on finding which prints match the other and whether that certain individual is using two accounts so they can detect it through fingerprint testing.
For me it is very interesting and I guess that it is a job where I would be happy. From this kind of activity we are able to connect biology to technology which are both branches of science. I don’t know but it thrills me. It excites me and it makes me want that job.
Other than that there were also another thing which I like and that is the SSS ID Card Production Center. The moment I enter the room and saw those big machines for card productions, it just simple paints a smile on my face knowing that this is the place where all SSS cards nationwide is being produced which includes the SSS cards of my parents. It is amazing for me because we are on that  exact places where the real thing is used for a real scenario and for a real life.

What I didn’t like…

As far as I could remember and feel there is nothing that dislikes me from the tour of SSS. Aside from the fact that we ended there so late and I guess that was around quarter to 2:00 o’clock in the afternoon and because of that we had our lunch also late as well as the next company to be visited.  Other than that there is nothing more serious.

                No flaws, just flawless. J

Today I went to…

Solutions. People. Innovations. Started at 3:20 in the afternoon we had our orientation and introduction to SPi Global founded by Alan R. Fraser. As a premier provider of content outsourcing services and solutions SPi has landed to a discipline of commitment, enduring performance and continuous improvement.

What I learned…
SPi is comparable to Sutherland. They both do the same thing as a Business Process Outsourcing. As a multi sourcing company this said company is competitive in ICT and in BPO industry. Well as competitive as they were, SPi also maintains a corporate solutions development group which utilizes waterfall as a system’s development life cycle. For some of my colleagues in the trip they can communicate it well to the speaker since the matter talks about System Analysis and Design. Going back to waterfall, I learned that using this kind of life cycle is suitable to a small medium database application.
As we go through on tour, there were again similar and related terms that were being discussed and this includes internet links, network links and system administrators. Knowing and being aware that we are in this kind of business needs knowledge and learning of d how does if goes and of what are its specifics to be able to maintain and always be on track.

What I liked..

Well honestly, to kind to technology that they have, there is nothing unique. Thus I can say that everything was just okay and smoothly flowing. But even if it went well and nothing is making a flaw, it does not impress me and nothing has attracted me to like it.

Everything is just simple. Nothing more and nothing less.

What I didn’t like…
                The simplicity I guess…
